#WorshipWednesday Worship Wednesday steps into the new year by recognizing the seminal #TechHouse release from U.K DJ/Producer Grant Dell. Dells Sleeping Dub EP (WOR.16) was released in 2003 which marked a pivotal year for the Tech House sub genre as artist were really molding the sound. Grants influence on the genre would not only be heard through his release for #WorshipRecordings, but on Loaded Records under his Tribalation moniker with production partner Gareth Oxby. Grants Tribalation project was recognized by Dj Mag as Best Newcomer and also during this time his solo efforts were being placed on prestigious mix compilations such as Renaissance, Global Underground, Nu Breed, and FabricUK. Grant was gracious enough to share with a very in depth and detailed account of the history surrounding the EP and what he is up to currently. Lets check out what he had to say! At the time of writing Sleeping dub and Good music a play my studio was more out board then, Novation 808 - Virus B and proteues sound modules, DBX and valve compressors and all running through my old Allen & Heath GS3 mixing desk. It was really at the start of my producing career and i was getting a lot of interest from various Tech - House labels due to my Tribalation project, which was singned to Loaded records. It was a very exciting time because it was a buzz to be part of what is now regarded as a pretty important genre. I was always a big fan of reggae and dub and i was using alot of those influences in my productions and both of the two tracks for Worship were bulit around old school reggae vocals, or toasting - One was a Earl Sixteen vocal and the other was a Big youth sample. I just wanted the tracks to build nice and slow, using the different elements, a nice DJ tool if you like. The titles were just what some of the samples were stating and i added the word dub because thats how i view my more reggae influenced trax - they are dub work outs. I was working at Swag records at the time of writing the EP and we were selling Worships releases in the store and me being into my jamacian music i loved the label as it leant towards that sound. I later met Rob at the miami music conference and DJed for him at his party there back on 2003, if my memory serves me right. After a few years hiatus i am back writing and have just re vamped my studio and i am launching a VINYL label this year called GIANT the first four releases are almost ready and they feature some producers that i have always respected - JAY TRIPWIRE - SILICONE SOUL - JEFF BENNENT - TOM GILLIRON - and the first release is from a very good DJ friend of mine, who is just starting to produce, MARK ALLISTER - he also sings on the track. So i am very excited to be back in the game, as they say, and looking forward to what 2015 brings. - Grant Dell.
