He went on to lead the Australian Green Party in the national parliament from 1996 to 2012. The Greens, under Brown’s leadership, were instrumental in creating one of the worlds most significant pieces of climate change legislation, setting up a carbon trading scheme, taxing pollution and providing ten billion dollars for renewable energy.
