Wow. My heart is so full after an amazing Thanksgiving with old friends and new. After calling out an open invitation to anyone who didnt have anywhere to go, we were amazed and delighted to have our table fill up with over a dozen guests. I know what its like to be alone on Thanksgiving, so Im incredibly grateful for everyone who came over last night and shared some love, warmth and delicious food with us. Your company has healed a lot of the wounds of this past year. Im thankful for all of the friends who have stuck by me through a really hard year. Im thankful for all the new people whove come into my life. Im thankful, honored and humbled to have a day job where I get to teach meditation, and help others heal on their spiritual journeys through my work. Im thankful for the chance to make art, to play music, to write stories. Im thankful for my health, my home and my community. Im thankful for dancing. Im thankful for my family, especially my awesome sister, Pritam who is always there to lift me up and demonstrate what it means to love unconditionally. Im thankful for Pineapple, our sweet little baby bird, whose cheerful birdsongs make me smile without fail. And most of all, Im thankful for Katelyn, my saving grace, my light at the end of the tunnel: luh yoo, boo ;) And even though our country and our civilization seem to be going to hell in a hand basket, Im grateful for the infinite beauty of this world, of this existence, of the simple chance to be alive at all. I didnt wait 14 billion years to be born as this person, in this time, in this place, just to be a cynic and pretend the universe is meaningless. In spite of the injustice, the melting glaciers, the endless wars... there yet remains an unflinching optimism among everyone I meet that something is changing for the better even as things appear to worsen, that something is shifting, that we are in the midst of an awakening. As disheartening as this weeks news has been, Im encouraged by all of the brave people who are standing up for whats right, for all of those starting the dialogue that will bring us closer to understanding, brother/sisterhood, and peace. Protesters today, peacemakers tomorrow. In spite of the hardships, in spite of the setbacks, in spite of the betrayals both personal and collective, Im gratefull just to be, grateful to bear witness to the miracle of existence, grateful for the breath in my body. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
