Wow. Today was tough. Brian & Maleah got a total of 1 hour of sleep last night. Luke was taken off the ventilator this morning at 8 am. I arrived shortly after. I walked into a room full of babies & approached the crib I saw Maleahs stuff by but took one look at the baby & couldnt believe it was Luke. My eyes filled with tears. His sweet little face was SO puffy. His eyes almost swollen shut. He was so restless & uncomfortable. Face reddish purple & diaphoretic from constantly crying out in pain. And on top of that, he was so so hungry. We tried dipping his pacifier in breast milk & put it in his mouth & he lit up. So we spent the remainder of the morning slowly syringe feeding him breast milk. There was a temporary relief that came from being fed, but that was overshadowed heavily by his constant severe pain, being gassy, uncomfortable, having a mild fever, having his airway suctioned and being so incredibly exhausted but unable to sleep, even for a few seconds. By the end of the day, Brian & Maleah were emotionally & physically feeling the weight of watching their sweet boy in extreme stress & not knowing how to help. So our prayer request is for rest: mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. These three are in desperate need of a good night sleep and the energy & wisdom to know how to best comfort & advocate for him. The good news is, from a medical standpoint, his heart & lungs sound great and his vital signs are stable. Praying for adequate nutrition, pain relief, protection from infection, and peace. So grateful for Brian & Maleahs strength through this. They have been so incredibly solid. Praise God that they are able to draw their strength from Him.
