Wow, seriously wow. November 2013 a small group of us came together to seriously talk about planning a community driven festival to accompany our CommUNITY Parade. We thought of all sorts of things we would like to see and do and hear. We tested our friendship and listened to the naysayers. We extended our hand to all who previously felt they had no voice. We reunited orgs that had lost touch with the community and united faith and spiritual org all over town. We were blessed with attendance by people from all over the map. We had gobs of kids running around and people staying the whole day. Volunteers who gave up their Time to come and make the event what it was. Performers gave us their Talent. Parade peps and Sponsors who gave us their Treasure. City agencys answered a million questions. Artown entrusted us with a community project. We put our reputations on the line to set people minds at ease. We had 50! Contingents in the parade and 40+ booths and vendors. Many commented that this was one of the best local events they attended gay or otherwise. We made mistakes and people were mostly forgiving. We learned so much about festival management and inclusion. We owe so many people thanks and we will try to get to every one of you. This weekend was able to happen because so many people said Yes, Ill give you a chance. I am so proud to have been apart of something so beautiful and moving. This was all done in the name of a free festival that benefits our community. Thanks to everyone that made a donation at the door!
