Wow so what a day. Just woke up and its the middle of the night (just came off my 2 weeks swing away at work where we finish on 7 night shifts, so takes a day to adjust back to normal) and its given me a chance to reflect back on todays events!!! Flew out from work at 8am and landed back in Perth at 9:50am where my mate was sitting and waiting for me to race me back to his house where all the containers of transformers were. It is a 30min drive 1 way from the airport to his house, and as my flight to Adelaide was 12:55pm, it didnt really leave room for error! Being the top bloke my mate is, he had newspaper, bubble wrap, plastic bags and a shitload of sticky tape ready and waiting for me to get stuck in and make everything as safe as can be to transport via plane. Most containers had lids, but a couple didnt so I had to improvise, and also 1 container was quite brittle so a quick transplant to a new container my mate had also gotten me just incase (top bloke, Dean is his name) Had max 1 hour at his house to get this done, and i used every minute before we loaded everything up into the car. During the packing process I had to locate the g1 megatron figures, and transform him to robot mode (didnt fancy rocking up to the airport with guns hahaha). This is where things get even more interesting! As where I work there is a few people who also fly back to Adelaide on the same flight, and during the last swing I had organised with them to all help me check the containers in under their names, so I could get it all back to SA basically for free! So a big shout out to Muns, Scotty, Ben and Ben, Georgie, and Willow. My cut off point to be able to check everything in was about 12:25 and it looked like we were gonna be there by 12:10,plenty of time....... Well, as we got closer to the airport I realised my mate Deano had taken me to the wrong terminal! Damn u Perth and ur stupid airport set up! So instead of being 2mins away we were still another 10! So my mates who were waiting for me at the airport at this stage were getting worried as they were all waiting outside the Qantas terminal but we were nearly at the Virgin one! A few law breaks by some necessary speeding by Deano and we were at the Qantas gate with less than 10mins to spare! My mates were there waiting with trolleys! They totally spun out when they saw all the boxes! Haha I told them there was lots! Anyway we stacked up 3 trolleys and raced inside! Quick thinking by my mates, as they had already had their luggage stickers printed and all they needed to do was get them to the bag drop. Me on the other hand still needed to print mine out for my check in! I tried to scan my card and it wouldnt work! Panic set in as there was only 5 mins left! So I just yelled out EXCUSE me and just hoped the nearest Qantas assistant would come running. She did :) Told her I was on the Adelaide flight so she raved me to the desk and her words exactly were, your lucky, u only have 4mins left before the luggage check in closes!!! She got my luggage on no worries in the end, and then it was just the long wait on the flight back to SA. To say I stressed the whole way is an understatement lol. Got the the Adelaide Airport, where my family were waiting for me :) went to the carousel and bam! Pretty much all the containers came out at one and all where undamaged!!! Loaded them up onto 3 trolleys and my wife and kids and Willow helped well them out to my car, where the collection is now sitting until tomorrow when I drive home in the arvo! Going to have a super busy 4 days ahead lol If your still reading this, thanks for getting this far lol but I just feel that an operation as epic as this deserved to be written about, as Ive never heard of something like this being done before and cutting it so close lol
