Wow, this documentary on the Siege of Leningrad shows the brutality, suffering and insane endurance of that major 3 year WWII battle. I cant believe that the German troops werent cursing Hitler for underpreparing them and allowing them to wallow in mud and - 40 C winter blizzards, and the same with the Russian troops who had one day of training and had a lot of reasons to curse Stalin -- but then again, in both the Wehrmacht and Soviet Red Army, it would have meant treason to mutter anything negative (defeatism is not something dictators tolerate) and instant execution.
