Wow, this is such a fascinating powerful story in history. I cant believe I didnt know about it before. Near the beginning of World War I, troops had no concept of how massive and intense this Great War would become. Europe didnt really experience any local wars for about a century since Napoleon, and the common concept of a war was a short battle of a few months. Fighting battles for your country was just something you were supposed to do as a citizen. But on Christmas 1914, no one felt like fighting and slaughtering each other. The German and British soldiers started singing carols from their trenches along the Western Front, until they felt safe enough to come out into the dangerous No Mans Land to meet each other, shake hands, hang out, learn each others language better, tell jokes, exchange food, and even play fun games of soccer with their new friends. Incredible. The next day the German and British soldier returned to following orders and resumed slaughtering their new friends. Thank you Stefan Molyneux for bringing this incredible story to my attention.
