Wreaths Across America Do you have a loved one, ancestor, friend or battle buddy buried at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery? Why not honor your loved one or friend by sponsoring a wreath through Wreaths Across America and/or volunteer to lay the wreaths at the headstones on December 14. You may have seen the article in last weeks Herald newspaper about Wreaths Across America. There are nearly 113,000 headstones at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. They will lay as many wreaths at Ft. Sam as are sponsored. They expect 12,000 to 15,000 wreaths this year, but the ultimate goal is to have one wreath for each headstone at Ft. Sam. The wreaths are $15 each and can be grave specific, meaning they are intended for a specific person or a soldier who fought in a specific campaign. Other wreath purchases are open which means they will be placed on a random grave along the drives and walkways frequented by cemetery visitors. Wreaths can be ordered through November 30 by sending $15 per wreath to: Wreaths Across American, POBox 460043, SA TX 78246. Checks should be made out to Wreaths Across America. You can donate/sponsor at their website, but you cannot order grave specific wreaths online. Volunteers for December 14 are needed and welcome. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m., and the wreath-laying begins at the honor ceremonys conclusion. Potential volunteers or those with questions may call 210-861-8037 and leave a message. Judy Carlile, San Antonio Director for Wreaths Across America says, You will never, ever forget the first wreath that you lay. It just touches your heart.
