Writing a review on Kathi.. This movie from what I hear, has had a tremendous opening. I had no expectations whatsoever, watching this movie. And my reviews will be honest with what I feel and think about the movie than my personal views on the movie stars. The movie has definite positives, first and most important one is - the hero Vijay not trying his usual acrobatics in entry and swishing up a hurricane with limbs. Here we see a much better Vijay (albeit illogical and unexpressive). That according to me is a revelation in his decades of movie casts. Second positive is the subject which ARM took, it is extremely sensitive and a very critical social subject, With the amount of money floating from the Multi Ns, there needs to be guts to get to this subject. Then one other thing that stood out, there is this tamil rapper, holy cow - that guy is friggin talented. Forget singing to tune, try talking tamil in that speed... Applause. Ok now thats that, I m not going to list the negatives - it is painfully huge. But in summary - the movie is a piece of logical crap. In one scene the hero gets blue print of Chennai city with a swish of finger and is able to see the entire sewage pipeline connection by... looking under the table. Even Kabaleeswarar who has lived in Chennai since its Bijapur days cant do that, but this movie writer/director/actor can. The movie has 2 heroes (no its not a spoiler), how do you differenciate - one has facial expressions that make you throw up, another is one that you have seen for ever - with no expressions. The direction, screen play, writing - sucks to the core. Dialogues, movies scene flow etc just seem like very poor editing. The fantastic story line was twisted to accommodate the hero who smashes up 50+ well built, professional goons in one sitting with on-off switches... No man, thats straight competition to Rajini, I cant tolerate that. Vijay goes from English zero to TOEFL certified in 15 min of movie time... Rabidex - take that!!! Hard core Vijay fans may find this new avatar cute and even bunny like, I found it abominable. Live with it guys - he simply cant do it. May be he will act with better expressions, but definitely not anytime soon. Check out the scene where he witnesses the farmer suicide on video, if you call that expression then Powerstar is Marlon Brando. AR Murugadoss, proved that he can be bitten and smitten by the commercial bug, and I even found traces of SA Chandras influence on the lengthy pointless dialogues (I m positive behind the screens they used Your Honor this case as it happens in his neethikku series). Poor direction, very poor screen play, complete outrageous illogical ideas and an actor who simply cannot express. Tamil movies have had some very good influx of movies in 2013 / 14 from Soodhu Kavvum to Saivam, there is a good standard that has been set - it will be a sin and a shame to the tamil industry to entertain such mass madness for the sake of mass. If Vijay keeps doing this, I am positive that not AR Muruga, even Aarupadai Muruga cant save him.
