Writing artist statements is always so hard....: I am an artist working in the mediums of oil painting and drawing. I have a diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa, Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which have led to me needing a disability support pension since I was 18. I became interested in art during a long hospital stay when I was 2005, when I began drawing as a way to pass time and to offer a distraction from treatment. My experience of psychiatric disability profoundly influences my worldview and thus my art. The subjects of my work are driven by my disability, focusing on perceptions and experiences of the body, of illness, and of nutrition. Further, the detailed, meticulous style and technique I employ are influenced by my obsessive way of seeing these perceptions and experiences.
