(Writing skills) Writing is a productive skill. It is usually considered the most difficult skill to acquire. It is very important for all students, especially those who want to study overseas at a higher level. Writing begins with letters formation and handwriting (joining letters). We also need to learn and practise spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and finally writing whole texts. Conventions for writing texts are different in every language, so it is useful to read as much as you can in English. This will help you learn about how to organise ideas in English, layout of written texts (e.g. where to put your address when writing a letter in English), and paragraphing. It will also help you to improve your spelling and punctuation (including the use of capital letters). As with speaking, it is useful to plan your writing in advance. Plan the content. Then write a first draft. If possible get someone to comment on it. Then write your final draft.
