Wrote this on a different conversation. Felt it needed to be shared. Feminism IS about gender equality. Period. Media is sensationalizing the radicals and MISANDRISTS that actually have no place in feminism but think they do. Can everyone just please stop ALLOWING misandrists and chauvinists to call themselves feminists and call them on what they truly are instead of whining about how modern feminism is becoming some kind of man-hating movement? Women are not yet equal to men not only economically but especially socially. Feminism is about bringing womens (Hence fem rather than human) rights up to the same level as the rights and privileges as men. However, SOME male privileges (not rights) are also ridiculous and need to be dealt with as they are working against the equality of the genders. Saying we need to fight for mens rights too is ridiculous. What youre trying to protect is called male privilege. Now, we also must take into account that not everyone is the same. So no, not all women are going to have the same physical attributes (an example) as males, and yes, we should adjust accordingly. Because we are trying to make us equal in status, not assume that we are equally the same. When we assume that everyone is equally the same, you are forgetting that all humans are on a wide spectrum of abilities and advantages/disadvantages and we must adjust accordingly, or we are in fact NOT championing equality at all. For the record: Gender equality is the measurable equal representation of women and men. Gender equality does not imply that women and men are the same, but that they have equal value and should be accorded equal treatment. The United Nations regards gender equality as a human right. Please share if you agree. I feel like this is something we need to start passing around as much as possible.
