YEE CLAN IN SANTA BARBARA CHINATOWN – KIDS In early 1948, Quan Tuey Hai Tong, my maternal grandmother, left China from Hong Kong for America with Sun Yoke Tong on the S.S. Gordon. She was pregnant with twins. She arrived to the Port of San Francisco on February 17, 1948. The next day on February 18, she gave birth to twin girls, Rose and Lily. In Santa Barbara, Wallace and Jeanne were born at the old Cottage Hospital. Rose, Lily, Wallace and Jeanne attended schools in Downtown. Seen Hoy Tong, their eldest daughter, arrived in 1952 to the Port of San Francisco on the S.S. Wilson from Port of Hong Kong. She briefly attended Santa Barbara Junior High School. After their first date in booth #2 at the famous Far East Café in Little Tokyo near City Hall, in 1955, Seen Hoy Tong married Gim Suey Chong of Los Angeles. Gim was an aircraft inspector at Lockheed-California Company in Burbank as well as weekend waiter at the Far East Café. She gave birth to two sons, Raymond and Michael. The Chong Family frequently visited Santa Barbara, during weekends and summers. Their visits were always joyous occasions with communal meals and excursions around The American Riviera of The Gold Coast, with Sun Yoke Tong and Quan Tuey Hai Tong.
