YES! I AM AMBEDKAR SPEAKING……. ============================== Dear friends, I am regretted to advise you people once again on the earth. I feel that I lack something in advising you. I am afraid, am I failed in toto? I have such doubt/ I feel suffocated on observing today’s situation. I am crazy to come once again on this earth by breaching all natural laws to re-advise you people. I am worried of your future. The reasons are also equally strong. You people disappointed, you are jealous with each other, hating one another and observing each other in bad manner. Are these not symptoms of your perilous path? You must mend your ways as early as possible, you must keep and maintain harmonious relationships in your middle, or else you may note that dark future is waiting at your door to gear you up. You are marching ahead towards mutual and social disintegration which is literally a dismal event for the society. You are gradually attracted towards danger if you fail to awake as early as possible. I had said, “Educate, Organize and Agitate.” Education is milk of lioness. Those who drink it, never stop themselves from roaring. Agitation cannot be possible without organization. Today’s running disintegration of the society horrible. Some fellows are struggling for their selfishness only. Their actions are dangerous to the society. They must not gamble the society for sake of their mere selfishness. They should honestly work for welfare of the society and be blessed, so that they would be remembered by people for their honest struggle and sacrifice for noble cause of the society and as such, people by and large would unanimously consider him as perennial source of inspiration for generation to come. As a matter of fact ‘Man is indebted to the society in which he is born’. So, it is our duty to always remember and endeavor to clear the debt as long as we are on the earth. Keeping this factor in my mind, I had planned my life’s calculation accordingly. For this, I had to face innumerable hardships, carping humiliations, many dangers and severe situations and poverty too. For sake of education I remained half fed, sometimes on slice bread; but studied for 20-22 hours a day. I used to be the first person to enter into the library daily in morning and last person to exit at closing time at night. I was like addict. You know addict does not care for anybody and his family for fortifying his addiction. In the same manner I was addicted to reading, reading and reading. One incidence I would like to tell you that, I purchased a heap of important books by mortgaging 20 tola gold jewelry. On knowing this, my sister-in-law rushed angrily to my study room, I immediately stood up; but she only exclaimed ‘Bhauji’ (Brother) ! Then she left the study room with tearful eyes. I understood what she meant to say i.e. ‘What happen to our future livelihood in such poverty, if the home’s wealth will be spent like this.’ I could not dare to console her at that juncture. I kept busy in reading. Reading is like weapon. Mind gets sharpened on reading just like weapon sharpens on rubbing over grinding stone. Reading is nothing but mode of developing one’s personality and amusement also. During reading scriptures, I was searching, is there any path of our emancipation and salvation? I was carefully searching for. I was also searching, what was the root-cause of receiving us such kind of humiliating treatment without any fault. I was in search of our social emancipation and also, as to how we would receive equal treatment in social life, through reading. Whatever I developed through reading that I addressed and advised you. Your progress was only my mission which I had voluntarily worked for. I told you the path of your progress. How to tread on the path, has also been told. Those who tread on the path honestly and dedicatedly, they made immense progress and those who did not tread or tread with inadequate efforts or did away the path that they felt difficult, could not make progress. Once upon a time I had told you that, we cannot make progress living in the orbit of Hinduism, because this religion is not the religion because it disallows to own wealth for our livelihood and very existence, and advises to depend on others for our livelihood, is nothing but selfishness. This religion is not the religion because it does not permit one section to own education, weapon and wealth. This is not the religion which allow education to one section prohibits the same to others, is nothing but imposition of mental slavery. Hinduism is the unique religion on the earth which sanctions severe punishment for even to listen religious recitation of its scriptures. I have introduced you the best religion on the earth i.e. Buddhism which propagates equality. While embracing Buddhism, I thought deeply about its possible consequences in future. I took all precautions that you won’t be in trouble. I conducted meetings at many places and sought your opinions. I tested thoroughly and carefully so that no blunder would be made by me for which I would be blamed by you people subsequently. I have not deceived you. I have given you a holy religion- The Buddhism. This is not traditional religion; but it is scientifically well tested. I am thankful to NATURE (though it is neutral, but it is itself timeless supreme and master process/law) that I could be successful to change your orbit from hate-based Hindu religion to compassionate universal Buddha’s Dhamma, before 2 month of my demise (Submission to NATURE). With this I took you all to an innovative world of logic, reason, compassion, wisdom, fraternity, democracy, equality, cause and effect relationship, rationalism, atheism, humanism and etc. With this, your responsibilities have increased multifold, for you all ought to shoulder it. You have a lot of responsibility on your shoulder. You must act righteously so that people would respect and honor you. You may please do not consider that I have put you into difficulty by giving Buddhism. I know, the followers of Buddhism are exceptionally less in our country. Hence, it is our prime duty to practice Buddhism in good manner, or else people would say that Mahars have put Buddhism to low level. In practicing Buddhism, you would be able to make welfare of yourselves, the society and nation as well, because Buddhism is a unique religion which can establish peace in the world. There would be no establishment of peace in the world unless justice is sought. You have a great responsibility on your shoulder. I have given you Dhamma based on science. There is not much importance to rites, rituals and entertainment in name of religion. This is a grave religion based on moral, legal and righteous actions of an individual, no place for any kind of blind beliefs and even no place to god, soul or anything supernatural. Dhamma propagates living philosophy i.e. perennial humanism, compassion, wisdom, fraternity, equality, justice, goodwill and welfare of all human beings. Dhamma is Universal, i.e. its doctrines are applicable to every human beings on the earth because Dhamma is the complete research of life by the Buddha through his relentless efforts for the welfare of entire human beings. His entire teachings still unchanged convincingly, in spite of 2500 years have been rolled off. Dhamma is the TIMELESS religion on the earth. Dhamma’s doctrines are nothing but the inventions in the field of HUMAN SCIENCE. The Human Science (Dhamma) means the science which converts wild man into gentle and virtuous man. Whereas inventions of material science e.g. bulb is invented by Thomas Alva Edison. On seeing bulb’s light no man on the earth can deny that it is not the bulb. This is the invention in the field of material science and the same is universal. So Thomas Alva Edison is called as the MATERIAL SCIENTIST. Material is always neutral form i.e. it doesn’t have thinking power, except live beings. As such, Material scientist can’t convert wild man into virtuous/gentle/good man. On the contrary, the material science’s negative use leads to destruction of humankinds, properties, nations and what not. For instance, Dynamite was invented by Alfred Nobel. Its positive purpose was to blast mountains so that roads, railways, dam construction etc. should be done to flourish mankind as a whole. But in fact, being a man a basically vice-prone animal, he has been using it for destructive purposes. Other such inventions are – Machine gun, explosive, atom/hydrogen bomb etc. .These are all inventions in the field of Material Science and these are universal. Similarly, Buddha’s doctrines are also the inventions in the field of Human Science because these doctrines are unchanged hitherto since 2500 years ago, still applicable to entire human beings on the earth, the same have been discovered by one man - the Buddha through his relentless thinking and experimented on mankind, as such, the inventions/doctrines of the Buddha are Universal. In view of this Buddha should be treated as THE GREATEST HUMAN SCIENTIST EVER LIVED ON THE EARTH, INSTEAD OF TREATING HIM AS A MERE FOUNDER OF BUDDHISM. If a man is on continuous research of human life’s truths without bias, on his own efforts relentlessly for several years, his road shall ultimately link to Dhamma (The Human Science), for I am cocksure about it. Buddha’s Dhamma’s centre is not god, but MAN. Hence it is honest, convincing, well adhered to logic, reason, science, cause and effect relationship, compassion and wisdom. I had a vow, “Unfortunately I was born in untouchables of Hinduism; but I will not die in it.”. After completing study of Dhamma and seeking opinions of huge mass for 21 years for embracing Dhamma. I am proud to say that I had achieved this feat. I am thankful to ALMIGHT NATURE, THOUGH IT IS UNCOUSCIOUS OR IN NEUTRAL FORM, that it gave me the historical opportunity to accomplish this historic event at verge of my departure from this earth (just within 2 months from Dhamma Chakra Pravartan). I gave you 22 commandments/oaths while embracing Dhamma. I expect you should follow the same solemnly and honestly for you own welfare and society as well. All responsibly is on your shoulders. On observing today’s situation of the society, I am totally disappointed. Hindu gods are still existing in your houses. In row of Hindu gods, you have placed us (I and Buddha) and started worshipping us like Hindu gods. Buddha told that he was man like you. He was not Salvationist, but guide like the greatest human scientist ever lived on the earth. He disagreed any existence of god, then how would you he become god? Where ever, there is worship, rituals exist. As such, we are being worshipped with dhoop, flowers, candles, agarbatti and what not! Worship of god is nothing but willful bypass of an individual from duties, responsibilities and struggles in life. You are assuming that the same is supposed to be taken care by god that being treated almighty by the individual. This short cut and easy going shall put you on your own detrimental path. This path goes to blind beliefs. And the blind beliefs lead us to mental exploitations. Consequently, man comes under the withchcraft of financial, social and mental slaveries. Once you enter into the witchcraft, it becomes very difficult to come out of it. Having been so, it must be understood that your path of progress is blocked. Some people respected me and Buddha as their ideals which must be propagated for the generation to come. They thought to build up Buddha viharas and my statue was also constructed so as to achieve unity in the society. People should assemble so that thought exchanges could be made possible in their middle. With this Dhamma propagation and other social awareness in people would enhance. People would know more about Dhamma, younger generation would gain social and political knowledge and with this they would become idealist towards the welfare of society. But, what I see today! Viharas are man-less, dirt is seen everywhere in every Viharas. My statues are adhered with dust and my condition is also same like Viharas. I am feeling as if I am residing in kingdom of dirt and trash. It seems, I am totally ignored, but some exception are also I found. They regularly clean my statue. I am proud of them. They are not faithless, but faithful to me in doing so. If you do not like us as your ideas, you may please demolish the statues, viharas! Punish the fellows who propagate that we are not your ideals. Some people in you assume - though we(I and Buddha) are not alive, throw dirt on our memories, shall make no difference. After knowing all these, I feel giddy. I was initially knowing about elites of our society would be dangerous because of their selfish and betrayal attitude. Yes! The same has now been seen true. Those who followed my advice and honestly and dedicatedly acted accordingly, went ahead. And those who went ahead did not see back to their brothers and sisters of the society, in which they were born. They forgot where our brethren stands now.. They became slaves of happiness and other worldly material and pleasures. Well, these people erstwhile belong to depressed class- the poorest of the poors. This elite class are seen enjoying better life because of the hard work of their poor parents who had to bear hunger, lived in hutments and realized poverty for sake of better days ahead for them, their families and society as well. They are enjoyed this respectful position and life because of my struggle, reservations (Kavach kundal) as enshrined in the constitution of India. Some elites saw back, some went ahead without seeing back. Some forgot that they belong to the village. Some of them shied away from living in the society in which they were born and brought up, because they have now secured high positions in government offices. Some of them dislocated from the society. In new location they started their old traditions to appease their Hindu officemates for sake of maintaining good relationship and seeking promotions too (may be some exceptions). They started to remain cautious for protection of their hard earned money. So, have become your attitude! You can’t see struggling poor who are being fought for their legitimate rights, on road with their torn clothes, gloomy faces, poverty, naked feet and what not! You have to see them and also do not even prefer to see them. You painted glasses of your house’s windows with dark colour so that the poor guys could not be seen. Your children feel inferior in going to Buddha Viharas as you personally do not go there, then how can you expect Buddha Vandana from your children? You have not make any impression of Dhamma on your children, by teaching them about it, because you had never study Dhamma. I don’t know what will happen to your children in future in respect to Dhamma, as you are leaving them impression-less about it. Yet, you have attraction towards idol worship. It is a human tendency to go for idol worship. Small children cannot differentiate what is right or wrong. Similarly, elders also do not know how to differentiate. Child loves cat, dog and calf. If a child falls from a step, then on beating the step with a foot is enough to fortify the child. Thus blind beliefs glow over your mind. Mental state grows in such a way that new thought cannot easily enter into the mind. New thoughts are very hard to practice. This stage is just like not to give up ready half bread for sake of full fresh bread. Due to established old practices, new practices are felt fearful. You are afraid to give up the existing pleasure out of old practices in lieu of new practices. You try your best to come out of the rotten old practices, you come on the bank, but on observing the situation of the surrounding, your bodies shiver. You anticipate yourself if any bad omen may not cause by dint of god’s wrath. This haunt you that any disaster would come across due to wrath of renouncing the old practices, old gods. Then with great defeat, you dive back into the rotten old practices, in assumption, why should we put our life in danger unnecessarily? Thus you don’t find the way how to adopt new practices by coming out of the witchcraft of old traditional gods. Lot of pressure mounts on you. Why do all this so happen? The root cause behind all these is you lack reading. I have already told you that you met this ambibuity due to lack of reading habit. You can’t explore truth due to your adherence to rotten old traditions of Hinduism. On the contrary, you too like to enjoy slavery. “Thhevile anante taisechi rahave” (Marathi proverb –Saint Tukaram). That is, let is be at the same state as god has kept us. I would like to recall, “ As far as Nature is concerned, man is free.” So he should have independent living philosophy (Buddha’s philosophy) and not the speculative philosophy who leads us to imaginary world of god, soul or anything supernatural and ultimately to Trojan Horse (deception). Today’s your are jobless. I admit it. Your children are well educated, but they are frustrated due to no job to them. The reason is, they lock strong organization, egotism of leaders is solely responsible for your political waterloo. Caste factor plays a detrimental role in private sector. To eradicate the same is seemed to be rather impossible. You must timely pay attention to your children. Your qualified children are being attracted toward liquor and other bad habits due to frustration. Place then in business. Today’s situation is utterly dismal. For it, be organized and agitate which has no substitute at all. Only praising me would not solve your problem, but what is important in my view, you must practice and agitate till death, would only a way of your emancipation. I have hitherto brought this Caravan up to this stage with great struggle, hardship and carping humiliations single-handedly, if you cannot take it ahead, no problem, but you don’t try to put it into back gear. You admire me is not fair. I had adopted the struggle voluntarily for your emancipation till death. I know, I had left much more to do for you, but Almighty-The Timeless Strongest Unconscious (Neutral) Nature did not permit me for. Now it is your turn to accomplish and enhance my work being almighty (neutral) Nature, at this juncture, gave you this opportunity, i.e. You are alive at this juncture. As such, you, the current generation people, must shoulder responsibility of the society as you are alive is the greatest thing and scope is also alive with this. For sake of merely continued living , you should not forget reason and vision that I gave you Dhamma. You must always remember following quotations from noted philosophers …. ► I shall pass through this world but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show or any good thing I can do, let me do it now, let me not postpone it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again, by coming out of my own tomb; for it would have been too late for me. : E. de Grellet. ►Life is no candle for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations. : George Bernard Shaw. ► “By elevating life of others, your life reaches its highest dimentions.” ► Atta Deepa Bhava : Buddha. It is also rightly state by Pope, “Those who do not have ability to think, they treat all the happiness in only entertainment”. As such, in order to have fore-vision, it is essential for you to develop habit of reading histories of our ancestors, our books, periodicals like Jai Bhim, Dalit Voice, Ambedkar Mission Patrika, Rationalist Voice etc., dailies like Samrat, Mahanayak and Loknayak instead of sitting in front of TV (Idiot Box) and wasting time. When I thing of my past life what did I achieve hitherto? What is remaining? I repeatedly thought over. I was also a man like you. I had a small family. When I thought about my life scene of tragic events come in front of my eyes. I feel extremely sorry and my eyes become tearful. My Ramu (Wife – Ramabai) bore innumerable pains, poverty, hardships and sacrifices without any complaint for my and the society’s sake. She always used to be sick. She was consulted to Dr. Dasturkar. Then I cam to know that she had a major disease, but I did not tell her about this so that progress of society would not get hamper in anticipation. I was busy in hostel construction for students at Panvel. I received a message that Ramu was serious. I went back to Mumbai. Many doctors were there for her care; but she was not restoring. I was constantly sitting beside her bed. She was constantly watching me. She had hurdle in speaking. I was personally giving her medicine. I was trying to feed her up with coffee, Mosambi juice. She used to take a few quantity of juice for may sake; but her condition was worsening day by day. At last, on Sunday, May 26, 1935 at 9 PM, she passed away. I broke down with huge cry. All family members wept madly on her tragic demise. Ramu! You left us. I have not given you any happiness throughout the life. Your entire life had been spent in poverty, sacrifices and what not! You had done Herculean task in funning family and struggled and sacrificed yourself voluntarily for sake of family and society. Whot Rajgriha san into deep sorrow. We were preparing for final rites. I told people, “ My Ramu liked white sari, so white sari shall be brought. But people said, “ For married woman, green sari shall be better being auspicious as usual.” I calmly agreed for. 40-50 thousand people were assembled for her last procession of cremation. My small son Yeshwant also along with earthen pot of cremation (item) was marching ahead with continuously weeping and crying. Final rite of fire was preformed. I asked myself, did I lack something in saving her life. Forget jewelry! I could not even give good clothes even in her whole life. Moreover I could not take care of children like an ideal father. Day and night, I only meditated and worried for your emancipation and progress; but what all this for? Is there any use or meaning to my sacrifices and struggles which I adopted voluntarily for you? I view of all these sacrifices; can I get justice from you all, for my and my wife’s endless sacrifices? With a great hope of your bright future, with regret and with heavy heart, I take your leave now by extinguishing myself i.e. submitting myself back to The Almighty – The Timeless Strongest Unconscious NATURE.
