YEW TEE CALL TO ACTION: Doraemon to the rescue :) Im so glad to visit young Miss K today and to see her so much more cheerful. Brought along 10 tins of Ensure milk powder so generously donated by our residents. Also presented a small token to Ks mother to help with the household expenses. Just a week ago, our Adopt-A-Family volunteers and supporters, with the help of Make A Wish Foundation, gathered to celebrate Ks 15th birthday. Volunteers like Linda and Nancy have also been visiting her regularly to read to her and to also do art therapy. The hospital bed donated by our residents from Zone 12 is also proving to be very useful for K :) thanks Anna for the link up! Thank you to the De La Salle volunteers for also helping to paint the house walls with Doraemon murals, Ks favourite character. Her eyes literally light up when we talk about Doraemon :) She is now on Public Assistance and getting a much higher subsidy on her medications for Gauchers Disease. Thank you to Parliamentary Secretary A/Prof Muhammad Faishal for helping with the appeal! Very much appreciated! Am hoping to work with KKH for more help as there is no source of income for Ks mother who has to care for her full time. The medication is still costing them about $900 per visit even after a very heavy subsidy due to the rarity of her condition (1 of only 2 Singaporeans to have it). While she is still having spasms, am happy that she is smiling more and also more relaxed. Encouraged K to be like Doraemon, always happy and smiling. Also invited her to join us in our community events so shes not cooped up at home all day. Am very thankful to the generosity of strangers who have stepped forward to donate milk and other items for families like Ks. You really dont know how such small gestures can make a big difference to our adopted families. We will continue to journey with our families, and we invite you to step forward if youre also willing to lend us a hand in making a difference!
