YMCA Clinch a Double as Basketball Season Ends Barely one month aftyer clinching the Gambia Basketbal league, YMCA Basketball Club on Saturday completed a double following their 71-69 points win over Serekunda West in the knockout final played at the Independence Stadium Basketball Court. In the Female Final GAF find it difficult in the first and second set because Saints Girls did not allow them any chance, apparently at the last set GAF used their experience to win the knockout with a score line of 27 -22 points. In the third and fourth place match Wallidan dominated Sports House 62-52 points. Present at the finals were the President Gambia National Olympic Committee Alh Momodou Dibba, Mr Oreme Joiner General Manager Trust Bank Gambia Limited, Alh Badou Mbenga a pioneer of Gambia Basketball, Aja Amianta Sowe of Trust Bank, members of the GBA Executive, USA Embassy Staff etc. Houndreds of people witnessed the first finals of a basketball game in over a decade. The GNOC donated the cash prices for the league D20,000 whilst the GBA funded the price money for the knockout. The GBA wishes to thank the government of The Gambia under the distinguished leadership of HIs Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr. Alh Yahya A J J Jammeh for providing the conducive environment to enable us have basketball again in this country. We would like to profusely thank the GNOC, Trust Bank Gambia Limited, Gamtel/Gamcel, SSHFC, Banjul City Council, Independence Stadium management and Serrekunda West Sports Committee. Most especially the GBA would like to thank the referees, journalist and the spectators without whom the wonderful games would not have had a successful comeback. The GBA wishes to inform all basketball enthusiasts that the next season will hopefully start in November.
