YOU ARE ACCEPTANCE ITSELF Imagine the perfect movie screen. It never disappears. It is always present. It allows all kinds of movies to be projected onto it - war movies, horror movies, comedies, thrillers. Sad movies, joyful movies - the screen provides a home for all of them. The movies come and go, but the screen always remains. The screen is never hurt or damaged, even by the most violent or intense movie. When you are watching a movie, absorbed in its story, you never notice the screen. You get swept up in the drama. Locations change, scenery shifts, you go forwards and even backwards in time. Characters are born and die. Wars are fought, tears are shed, connections are made and unmade. All of this is happening on a screen that never changes, never moves, never travels in time, is never born and never dies. The one thing that is essential - the unchanging screen - is never part of the story. And yet, without the movie screen, there could be no story in the first place. When you walk out of the movie theater, you may think you have been watching a movie all evening, but really you have only been watching a screen that never moved. You have been staring at something that never changed, never did anything at all, had no story of its own. And yet, at the same time, you feel that you went on a wonderful journey. This is the paradox of human life. The dreams of my life play out on a screen of awareness which is always awake. This living screen is what you are. Pure awareness prior to concepts. A constant presence. The movie is the unending dance of concepts, thoughts, sensations, sounds, images, memories, perceptions, all appearing and disappearing in your timeless embrace. The movie is constantly moving, but you always remain, never part of the movie but always allowing it, deeply rooted in the here and now, radically open to the next scene, whatever it turns out to be.
