YOU CAN….BUT I CAN! Speaking doctrinally, God grants us the “freedom” to teach ANYTHING, whether true or not – but He does not extend the “liberty” to do so with His approval. At the same time, He includes guidelines to promote TRUE speech, and discourage the FALSE. So, if you want to deny the completeness of scripture, advocate matters which are not authorized, belittle your adversaries, make “war” with a contentious spirit, or offend in your speech and manners – YOU CAN! Nobody made you do it…and you have been forewarned about the consequences… But, there is another choice, which I am “free” to make, as well. And, having chosen to be led by God in what I do, He not only approves of the other course, He demands it. So, if you DO choose to act or teach without authority, I CAN doubt the validity of your teaching or practice (1 John 4:1); I CAN expect you to prove it by the Scriptures (Acts 17:11); I CAN ‘charge you to teach no other doctrine’ (Eph 1:3); I CAN “preach the word…in season and out of season”, even if it contradicts you (2 Tim 4:1-3); I CAN, if it becomes necessary, “mark” you, and “avoid” you (Rom 16:17). Why is it, that when you exercise your “freedom” to make the unscriptural choices, everyone is expected to accept you in spite of them, but when I exercise my “freedom” to react to you as described above (things I am required to do by God) that I become evil, and bad, and disruptive?
