YOU KNOW ITS NOT GOING TO BE A GOOD DAY WHEN....... 1) Before you even get out of bed.......Rikki, the 13 yr old deaf crazy out of control JRT, keeps jumping out of bed, then barks to get back on then off then on then off then on and finally you pull the muscle under your shoulder blade from lifting her so many times. 2) You cant find your purse ANYWHERE. 3) You find your mother, whos in hospice here at home, not able to breath well, feeling horrible and in pain...so much so she had to take liquid morphine and while you are tending to her....... 4) David comes to the window with a VERY long face and with such a deep concerned voice says, DEBBIE! I nervously respond with a loud WHAT??? Im thinking something terrible has happened to a dog or family member when he says, I found the bedroom door open, and Rikki is no where to be found! Im still working on drinking my precious morning coffee but its getting very cold by now. I carry it to the shelter to tell Lannie Im going to look for Rikki. I set it down on a patio table and immediately Maddy begins to lap it up. Thats the last thing Maddy needs....caffeine! Grace, my intense german shepherd, jumps in the truck along with Maddy, my boston/chi pup whos wagging her tail with such excitement, and Dammit Dixie, whos being....well Dammit Dixie (shes jumping all over like a mexican jumping bean). Off we drive the 3 mile trek toward town. As Im coming around a sharp curve I see Rikki in the road on my side. She was almost into town but had turned around headed back. Thats when I slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting her, and Grace, Maddy and Dammit Dixie flew to the floor. I opened the door and in jumped Rikki who was so exhausted she laid on the seat and panted. She had not been gone 20 MINUTES! 5) We get back the sanctuary and as I opened the truck door Dixie, Maddy and Grace jumped out with such a vengeance dust and dirt was flying all around me. Thats when something feeling like a dagger went into my right eyeball. It was so painful I cupped my hand over it and was dancing around like a nut. Thats when Rikki jumped out of the truck window and headed with the speed of lightening back up the driveway. In severe pain I ran after her and luckily caught her. I put her in the laundry room, fooled with my eye and finally the foreign matter was washed out by the tears flowing from pain. I made another pot of coffee and told Lannie Im not moving from my office till its gone!
