YOU Tip of the day: The Trainer Who Stole Xmas Trainers are the bearers of bad news this time of year. Remember don’t kill the messenger. This time of year brings wonderful things but some things that are adverse to training goals. 1. If you rely on outdoor activity or exercise as part of your fitness formula you will have less due to commitments and weather. 2. You will have food options that aren’t typically there and the number of social eating and drinking events will increase. 3. You will likely be going through a more busy and stressful time for the next month although it also a time of celebration and joy. 4. There are exaggerated numbers but the average person will gain 1-2 pounds during the holidays. Interestingly enough the average person who starts the season overweight will gain 5 pounds. Can you afford it? That’s a question you need to answer but I can try to help you with. SO 1. In this season simply schedule more true cardio. You can ad a training event a week or schedule an extra hour or two. Running, rowing, swimming, interval training, elliptical and About You training all fit this category. If you workout outdoors always have an indoor plan B. Here, how much exercise outweighs what type. 2. Try to adhere to your eating plan. Try not to miss or skip meals. Don’t fast and avoid healthy foods in order to have treats. This will give you the best chance to make good decisions. Then if you do make a mistake be sure it’s planned and controlled. 3. Make it a point to get your rest, manage your schedule for work and workouts, and be careful with social cocktails. Try not to burn the candle at both ends and plan the right amount of quality sleep in your schedule. 4. How have you reacted to holidays in the past? Set a goal based on your history. For some clients they are just maintaining their current weight is a great initial success for the holidays. If you have a body shape, body composition or body weight goal it will require planning, discipline and the introduction of new habits.
