YOUR LETTERS: FLOW OF BOAT PEOPLE TO AUSTRALIA The Jakarta Post | Readers Forum | Sat, June 29 2013, 12:13 PM A- A A+ Paper Edition | Page: 8 A big story here in Australia is the flow of refugees coming here in boats from Indonesia. The recent change of prime minister will once again bring this into the news. I would like to point out to the Indonesian people that some of these people have been found to be threats to national security. These people were in Indonesia. Surely it can not be hard to see that if Indonesia helps Australia stop the flow to Australia, then fewer of these people will go to Indonesia in the first place. How many people are waiting on Indonesian soil for an available boat? If Indonesia would like to stop the massive influx of potentially dangerous people into Indonesia, form an alliance with Australia, let Australia help financially, and you will not only deter the flow through your country, but create some income for people in Indonesia to work in the detention and return centres. It is very much in Indonesia’s interest to help Australia stop the flow of boats. Surely the Indonesian people can see this. Ron Ruys Brisbane
