// YOUR OFFICIAL ALASKAN STATE WEB SECURITY PSA Hay guys, I just fought a really bad trojan-like extension for a bit embedded in Google Chrome that was likely pushed through an extension for viewing Netflix from other countries. If you have used Hola Unblocker to get US Netflix, you need to clear Chrome completely and use an alternative proxy extension eg Proxmate (though im not 100% sure proxmate is safe at this moment). Though I am using a PC, and maybe this isnt an issue on macs, I wouldnt be so sure because it is all running through the extensions of your browser, which are cross platform apps. See, what happens is that legit extensions get bought out by ad pushers who hijack your browser through pushed updates, adding registry keys and extensions installed through your chrome user profile. This extension, called many random names but identified by the ID: impaepofmnammebeenafgmllpnjaiime . However, this isnt visible in your extensions list, so you need to get the Chrome App Chrome App & Developer tool to see it, hidden away. This extension maliciously records typing, passwords, urls, data and sends it somewhere anonymously while pushing ad pop ups. it stays quiet for a long period of time before injecting an ad, so it could be a while until you even notice, especially if you have popup and ad blocking extensions like I do. After trying every single fix possible for weeks, only to have it reinstall itself and reenable itself repeatedly, I had to uninstall Chrome and reinstall after cleaning the registry: On PC: Download and run Chrome App and Developer Tool If you have a suspicious unpacked extension running silently, you can view if its logging your activity as well. Mine was called buyerschoice Unclick enable on the extension while you download the programs you need to finish this Uninstall Chrome and delete ALL user data Run any antivirus scan. I recommend the basic microsoft one if youre on windows. Download Malwarebytes AntiMalware and run. Kill everything suspicious Download CCleaner and clean the registry. Reinstall Chrome On Mac or Linux or ChromeOS: I dont know if this is an issue, or how it works if it is. But at the least, get the same Chrome App and Developer Tool and check to ensure you have not been pushed clickware.
