YOUR SAY: IS 25 SECONDS LONG ENOUGH? Goalkickers will be given just 25 seconds at next years Auckland Nines to convert tries while teams will also have just 20 seconds to take line drop-outs in new rules introduced today. As the NRL looks to increase the speed of the two-day competition even further, shot clocks will be shown on the big screen from the moment tries are awarded and any conversion attempt that takes longer than 25 seconds will be considered unsuccessful. Likewise, any team which takes longer than the allotted 20 seconds to take a drop-out will be penalised. “The Nines is already a fast, exciting game which is full of action,” NRL General manger of Football Operations Nathan McGuirk said. “We think the quick restarts will add even more excitement to this year’s tournament.” Squad sizes will also be increased to 18, while the interchange bench in any one game will decrease to five. Interchanges will remain uncapped, while the bonus try zone will also be implemented again. The tournament kicks off on January 31.
