YOUTH ALLIANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT’S MESSAGE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMENS - TopicsExpress

YOUTH ALLIANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT’S MESSAGE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY Observed each year on March 8, International Womens Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. The Youth Alliance for Development recognizes the hard work, contribution and dedication of women to the growth of the world’s economy. We believe that issues affecting women must be high on the agenda of every stakeholder in the development of Ghana particularly the upsurge in teenage pregnancy in some part of the country which is hindering girl child education. According to a report by the Ghana Coalition of NGOs on Health (GCNH), an estimated number of 750,000 teenagers from 15 to 19 years become pregnant in Ghana annually. We find this figure very disturbing since most of these girls are not able to go back to school to continue their formal education. Youth Alliance believes that the teenage pregnancy menace is basically due to irresponsible parenthood due to parents’ inability to spend quality time with their children. As we remember this very important day, we call on all Parents to devote more time to their teenagers, communicate and share their challenges with them. We call on Religious institutions, CSOs and the Media to institute programmes which will continually address Reproductive Health issues of teenagers. We implore government to create more recreational centers across the country to enable young people to use their leisure time profitably. Finally we join the entire world to say Ayekoo to all women.
