Yahoo! We had our first parachute malfunction is AGES! Malfunctions are definitely a part of skydiving, they happen (stats in Australia are 1 in 500 jumps for sport skydivers and 1 in 1200 jumps for tandems), were trained for them, we practice our emergency procedures at least a couple of times before every single jump (and more mental rehearsing in the plane), Tandem Masters do a circle of awareness in freefall (checking handles etc) on every tandem jump and all rigs have a Reserve parachute and an Automatic Activation Device fitted to our reserves (in case the Tandem Master doesnt deploy the Reserve), so all in all its a fairly controllable aspect of the jump. Its also really fun, AFTER its all over and everybody has landed ok. Definitely worth celebrating! What a great experience for the tandem passenger?! And so now, the probability of it happening again in the next year is pretty small!! Good time to come jumping with us!! Or if you are a bit crazy, wait a year or so and push your odds!! Heres the Sunshine Coast Daily story...
