Yall may have seen the announcement from Collateral Damage Roller Derby last night, and I just wanted to repost it. We will be canceling the away games we had begun to schedule. Since we are new, we feel like it is important to foster great relationships with other teams in the area in a manner that hasnt yet been done. We want everyone to know how awesome roller derby is, build great relationships among all of the teams/leagues, so we will operate in the following manner moving forward: We will host several mashups, some of which are already on the schedule for all derby teams to be involved in. They will be for a charity that is to be determined prior to the event, working with the charity to see what it is that they need. We do have an operating board, and will invite other people to join us who may have a particular set of skills that could be beneficial to all. We need to have a board in order to be a non profit. We will be operating as a non-profit events planning team moving forward. We hope to get all kinds of people involved, so if you feel like you have something to offer, please message me, and we can get you involved in meetings, strategy sessions, etc in order to get this up and off of the ground. We will also host and co-ordinate other events to spread the good news about Roller Derby in our area, and invite ALL other teams to come and represent their teams- this will show that while we are all different teams, we can all come together and do great things! After all, look at how we come together when a derby sister or brother has an injury- it doesnt matter if they are from our team or not- we all help. This is the type of reputation we want everyone to know that we, as a derby community, have. Derby, regardless of team, is a community. Some of these events may be fundraisers to help raise funds for mashups (they do take money to put on), may be an opportunity to do charity work, or just a really fun time. (Think back to rooftop and downtown skating excursions) Because we are not actively recruiting CDRD skaters, hosting practices, or participating in our own games, you will see some of our skaters going to other teams practices, playing for other teams, etc. We still need to improve upon our own game, we will participate with whomever will have us. We will follow all of the rules of that team, follow that teams bylaws, rules for membership, etc. So while we still consider ourselves the founding members of this team, we dont know what the future holds for CDRD, we just know that we are so excited about the adventure we are about to embark on. I want to encourage anyone who wants to join in on this, to please contact me. I will be creating a facebook group just for our events and planning, and want to get as much input as I possibly can. We are so looking forward to the direction we are taking, it isnt something that is the norm, and excited on the good we can do for our community! Derby Love, Glambo
