Yay! Our favorite week of the year is finally here - first rehearsal week! Students: GTCYS alumni offered valuable advice as you prepare for new GTCYS orchestras, new music, new conductors, and new peers. Take it to heart, and well see you at rehearsals soon! --Have fun! Dont be nervous around your section and others. Youre all there to create beautiful music and to also learn new things! ~Kyra Clapp, horn 13 --Bring a pencil. ~Kate Holzemer, viola 93 --Introduce yourself to your peers, your RA, and your conductor! Its easy to go through GTCYS knowing only your instrument section, make sure you expand your reach to others as well! ~Zoe Makila 14, viola --Be a leader! It doesnt matter whether you sit in the front or back. Everyone plays their own part to make the orchestra great! ~Anna Humphrey 14, violin --Be friendly and kind to everyone. Many of the people youll meet in youth orchestra will end up being life-long friends, and others, youll run into EVERYWHERE. ~Marlena Chow 96, violin --Be open (not intimidated) to the different levels of playing that you will notice within your orchestra. ~Lydia Sadoff 14, clarinet --Leave any ego at the door every time you walk in the room. ~Joel Kilgore 11, trombone --Actually use the nametags they give you for your stand (it will help you make friends), organize a weekly snack list with your section (it is the best!), and most importantly have SO MUCH FUN!!!!! ~Natalie Burg 14, violin
