Yazoo City has gone from being a premier community, that was a retail Mecca in the Delta, To the KING of dollar stores, cash for titles, check cashing, and my personal favorite the pimp game of furniture rental. Recently Popeyes opened, yet Shoe Show closed. Today I would like to talk about a store that closed a few months ago that I believe that could have helped us and our situation. Sears was located here in Yazoo next to McDades (Sunflower) And I must admit I didnt think it would stay open as long as it did. I know you say that sounds contradicting. How can a business they could have changed Yazoo, lasted longer than you thought? Okay here goes, when I saw that Sears was about to open I knew that they were in trouble. With less than 25% of the citizens in Yazoo City that would qualify for Sears credit, how could they survive? And that is a factor of POVERTY. People, well most people, that live in impoverished areas have problems building and establishing CREDIT. Most even though very credit worthy, never get a real opportunity to establish any real credit. Sears which is a company that has had its own share of financial struggles had an opportunity to give what it needs, A CHANCE... See I have to believe most people in our community pay two or three times more for products Because of lack of credit. Just about every financial institute in Yazoo Watches money wallpaper out of their doors on a daily basis. They watch potential customers leave BANKS To go to the cash for titles ( With the bank still will make money because the cash for Title are their customers also) And poor people pay ridiculous rates because of BS quotas. But that is another subject. I dont think any of the rent to own businesses help to establish credit because the people with no credit or bad credit are there customers. Now in Yazoo City there are more rent to own than retail furniture stores. More cash for Title than Banks. And these are some of the issues that our elected officials must address. Sears closes and Aarons rent to own opened and in the same location. How do we break this cycle?
