If you dont want to read it, politely step away. :) Sugar literally “gums up” your proteins, making them stickier and less able to do the jobs that proteins do. These sticky proteins are called advanced glycation end products, appropriately called AGEs. Now, all sugars are damaging in excess, but fructose is probably the worst. Research shows fructose is 7 times more likely to form AGEs. Your liver metabolizes liver into triglycerides, which oftentimes find a nice home around your midsection. Fructose is the major cause of fat accumulation in your liver, which increases inflammation and eventually insulin resistance. “When you consume fructose, you’re not consuming carbs,” says Dr. Robert Lustig. “You’re consuming fat.” Some sugars are bigger fructose offenders than others. One of the worst? Agave. So why does it still get classified as a healthy sweetener?
