Yeah its that time of year...the time of year when where I work, - TopicsExpress

Yeah its that time of year...the time of year when where I work, for the City of Amarillo, we welders and builders of my very talented crew get to decorate the City Zoo ready for all the kids in a festival of lights. Its sort of a Charlie Browns Christmas meets Jack Hanna mixing the holidays with animal gawking... ( and I politely meant the zoo animals looking oddly at us in holiday attire; thank you very much). But in this when we get to make kids smile, a lot...and here is how our crew does this: In a few steps, of course (as you will see in our photos). 1). We plan, then chalk out a vision of herpetarium-styled loveliness; like this enormous snake they want built ( yeah did I mention like giant anaconda? Gulp! )...this thing is over 16 feet long about 5 feet in areas wide and will weigh about some 60 lbs. when finished! Why not buy these you might ask? Glad you asked ;).. because some of these run professionally made for 6,000~20,000 $!! Ouch...we make ours for a about 300$ 2). We then tack-weld and bend various sizes of tube and hot roll metal together then super-weld it to form (Yikes! Already scary right?...more Halloween-ish right now). 3).We then prime and paint the snake in black-so you can see at night just the lights on it suspended in the air...(not to make a black mamba, silly, although a good guess). 4). Then we tape and attach stringers of LED lights, trying to highlight it and make look as festive as possible....Ho, Ho, Ho...? Well anyways, then we will assemble it as we have done gobs of other displays for the Zoo and then wait for nightfall, hit a switch watch the electrical sub-station...ZAPPP!!! Blink..then TA-DAH!!...Happy smiles from kids everywhere... :D
