Yeah, we talk about race all the time in America. But our conversations are superficial, trivial, without substance or depth. They are too often driven by emotion and reaction, and almost never involve people with whom we dont see eye to eye. We talk about our differences, but never with people who ARE different. THAT is the conversation we have avoided for our entire history. As long as we continue to avoid each other and that conversation, the Fergusons will keep coming. The wounds will never heal until we have the courage to face the pain of cleaning away the dead skin, exposing the raw edges, and creating the conditions that allow healing to take place.
