Year 12 - UOW applicants please read below: As you may be aware, two issues have affected the notification of UOW’s Early Admission (EA) program outcomes to some applicants to the program. While a record high number of early admission applications were submitted, and UOW Faculty interviewers were able to make a record number of successful offers, this effort has been marred by two technology glitches, which resulted in · offers being issued to some applicants for courses which were not those courses which faculty interviewers had made offers for · non-delivery of email advice of successful outcomes to a number of other applicants We are well aware of the impact that this may have had on your students during the HSC examination period, and we also understand that disappointed parents and students will have contacted you; and we apologise unreservedly for the disruption and anxiety this has caused to you, your parents or students. Since Friday, when we were first made aware of these two issues, all those in the first affected category have been telephoned by UOW staff. With respect to the second category, with a “blackout” now in place for contact with HSC students, we have posted an invitation on our future students Facebook page for any student who has not received their outcome by email to contact us on 1300 367 869, and we invite you to prompt your students to do so. Our staff are able to verbally confirm that they have been successful in their application to at least one course at UOW through EA. I would like to correct a number of misunderstandings that are in social media circulation, by emphasising that · Not all applicants have been affected · No applicant who was unsuccessful in applying for admission through EA was erroneously made an offer to UOW. · All applicants who received an offer through EA for UOW still hold at least one valid offer to UOW, even if it is was not their first preference course. · UOW’s Early Entry scheme is not conditional on receiving a published ATAR for the course. The only requirement to formalise the offer is for the applicant to have the course we have offered as their first preference by Tuesday 3 December to enable our offer to be formally issued through UAC in the early round of offers which are made on Wednesday 5 December. · Those applicants through EA who were not successful in receiving any EA offer are still eligible to receive an offer from UOW through UAC in the main round in January 2014, provided their ATAR meets course entry requirements The Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor will be conducting a review into the circumstances that led to this situation, and how it has been handled; and as an institution we are determined to have procedures and systems in future years which will ensure that there is never a recurrence of this situation. While we are not in a position to determine exactly why these issues have occurred, we are aware that many of you will be attending the NSW Careers Advisers Conference later this week, where this will no doubt be a topic of discussion. We are happy to provide a spokesperson for this event, if invited to do so. If there is anything we can do to assist you in this matter, please call Janet Holen on 02-4221-3249 or myself on 02-4221-3125; or any one of the team who manages your region – Pat, Brad, Deb or Shannon.
