Years ago I read the groundbreaking book, Strong Women Stay Young, by Dr. Miriam Nelson. Dr. Nelsons research proved the powerful effects of strength training to delay—and even reverse—bone loss, turn fat into muscle, and improve balance and flexibility in women of all ages. That book had a strong impact on me. I immediately bought Jane Fondas Workout With Weights tape. Id pop it in my VCR (remember those?) and for 30 minutes twice a week, I used free weights to strengthen my body and bones. I was hooked. I now use a combination of free weights and machines at my health club. While I love all kinds of exercise, strength training is the best thing I do for my body to stay strong and confident. I leave the gym feeling ready to handle anything. Do you work out with weights? If not, will you? The confidence it builds in your mind and body is priceless.
