Yep precolonial Africa women held a basically complementary work- position to men, in which power was based on seniority rather than gender. Under the colonization by europeans (where the belief of women are inferior came from) began changing the roles of women in effects to control them. So alot of how we view our mates, relationships, and the roles are based off a colonialism mindset not one based off original African traditions.
