Yes, I am a fan of football. I have spent decades watching the game and have been a Jags fan since their birth 20 years ago. Today I am a conflicted NFL fan, disgusted by the recent episodes of off-field violence and the obvious disdain many of the brutes who play the game have against women. I am equally as disgusted by the leadership, or lack there of, that has created a culture that turns away from responsibility and accountability. Today I go to The Bank to watch my Jags, but do so with trepidation and guilt. As a woman, as someone who tries to live a life directed by love and human connection, and as a person who still will not go to a BP station, eat at Chik Fil A, or dare to enter a Hobby Lobby (actually I have never been to a Hobby Lobby), I am conflicted on this day...NFL Sunday. I know there are many of you who dislike the game and choose not to partake, but for those of you who do love your football, how are you feeling today and how are you reconciling anger at the league and those who are nothing but big old jerks with an interest in watching the game and supporting a league (through ticket sales and TV watching that pulls in advertisers) that has a fool at the top and turns a blind eye to serious societal issues? All opinions welcome.
