Yes, Israel has a military. Yes, it is strong. But why do we need to apologize for that? Why do we need to apologize for the (relatively) low casualty rate we Israelis experience during the present military campaign? If we had not put our minds and might into building protective military solutions, the death toll in Israel would be beyond comprehension. Thousands of Hamas rockets would hit their targeted Israeli civilian populations and thousands of women and children would be dead. But no, we are not dead. I am not dead and I will not apologize for it. We invented missiles to shoot down other missiles so that human life is preserved. We strike terrorist targets after we text message and call Palestinian citizens urging them to leave the area in order to save their own lives. We built a protected field-hospital to treat wounded Palestinians. Yes, protected. Against what, you ask? We need to protect these wounded Palestinian civilians from the same rockets their Hamas leaders are launching at us. What nation does this? What military goes to such lengths in order to save lives - on both sides of the map? Our military. The IDF. The Israel Defense Forces. What is it made of? Is it made of hired mercenaries out for blood? No. We are an army of YOU. We are an army of sons and daughters, an army of fathers and mothers. We dread the moment our boys reach the age of 18 and must enlist. We dread the word war; we dread the word death; we dread the word terror. We dream the word peace. But peace will only occur when the side that yearns for it grows stronger than the side that doesnt.
