Yes, Thomas Paine, those were the days that tried men’s souls. As we contemplate a renewal of the founding of our country, we need to remind ourselves of what was considered in the original founding. No other foundation, outside of God, can be used to a better result. Either God gave rights outside of man or we are in the hand of the whim of men. Atheists need not be concerned, this benefits them too. Any changes in these rights should be proven via natural law. We should also consider that the signers of the declaration of Independence were not poor men with no other alternative; neither were they stretched and in hardship financially. They were by and large very rich men with everything in this world to lose including their lives, which they pledged for Liberty.
