Yes, after careful consideration, I have once again decided to stand on my soap box and speak in the hopes that at least a few people will listen and be affected by what I have to say.... *ahem* Over the past few years, I have observed and heard people around me decrying some country, race, religion or otherwise for this or that act of terror or hate, and as an example, I will refer to the terrorism stemming from the Middle Eastern Countries. What people seem to fail to realize is that a few hundred years ago, the same could be said about the crusaders... all Middle Easterners are no more responsible for what happened twelve years ago, or even recently, than you or I are for slavery, the crusades, the government giving smallpox blankets to native tribes, or any war, conflict, or act of terrorism upon a people performed by members of some religion, race or country. People have the capacity to be caring, compassionate, loving... in short, human. But some people disregard or are otherwise ignorant of these capacities inherent in all of us, regardless of race, religion, creed, gender, et cetera. People have an opportunity to be a positive addition to humanity or a negative one, no matter where they come from. Some call other people, groups or countries "uncivilized". The root word in this, "civilized", was a word created for the sake of one group being able to label others as wrong and pity them for not being the same as they are. Really, all the word "civilized" has ever meant is that it is harder to get away with murder, rape, thievery and other crimes against other human beings in that society unless you have the funds/friends to make it disappear, and it also implies that bigotry, hate, and discrimination are disguised as "ideals" and protected by archaic laws based in previous religiously dogmatic or personal ethics. Nothing is perfect, and usually the more perfect something seems, the worse it is upon further scrutiny. So why not just have compassion for people who lack the impulse control and general humanity to understand the difference between right and wrong, and have the same compassion for those who are the victims of the people suffering this inherent sickness in humanity.
