Yes, it is widely known working mothers often have issues coming back to work. Recent Roy Morgan Research (AHRC) highlighted that of 2,000 working mothers surveyed, 1 in 2 experienced discrimination in the workplace (during pregnancy, requested parental leave or return to work). Discrimination has a negative impact on women’s engagement in the workforce and their attachment to it. As a result, a third of women either look for another job or resign. Most don’t make a formal complaint. Interestingly, it is not just women who experience the discrimination. 20 per cent of fathers did during parental leave, and 17 percent during their return to work. This highlights the need to promote and encourage flexible workplaces. I believe there are enough like-minded, driven, committed and dedicated successful professionals out there, to create a place for them to align to organisations that support flexible working.
