Yes, poverty affects a childs development--especially intellectual development. Weve known this since the 1960s, and there is plenty of research literature going back that far that says so. Lets keep this front-and-center, because it affects children around the globe, and will become even more evident as a greater number of countries trim their budgets by cutting education funding. It is as true here on the tiny Caribbean country of Sint Maarten, the Collectivity of St. Martin (the French side of the same island), the US, the Netherlands, France, China, Russia, and every other country--developed or developing--in the world. If we truly want world peace, then we (an international we) need to keep all of our children educated to the highest degree possible. Lets all put out children first. They are this planets future.
