But also, if we dont talk about abuse using direct terms, the events that triggers remind people of are more likely to be able to happen, handed balaclavas of fuzzy jargon to conceal their true, grim, terrible identities, and undermined in their gravity by being cloaked in softened sentences. Theres a fine line between protecting the public from unpleasantly detailed descriptions of abuse, and perpetuating a culture of shame and secrecy by dancing linguistic waltzes around difficult subjects.
