Yesenia Calderon, a UCF alumna (12) who majored in English and minored in legal studies, is the daughter of migrant farm workers. As a child, she and her family migrated twice a year between Floridas citrus groves and North Carolina farms. She attended a Migrant & Seasonal Head Start program and went on to enroll at UCF. She just won a coveted summer internship working for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund in Washington, D.C. She hopes it will lead to a career practicing family law.
