Yesterday Beria Atamturk and I went out looking for somewhere to - TopicsExpress

Yesterday Beria Atamturk and I went out looking for somewhere to relocate some dogs that are being kept in very poor conditions, we ended up down the quarry area, where we came across some of the quarry dogs. The first area we went to there was a Mum, 3 pups around 6 months old, the workers dog and a black and white male dog. One of the pups front leg had an old injury, probably a break that has healed now but has given her a limp. The mother is around 2-3 weeks pregnant again and will be spayed urgently. The black and white male dog had a wound to one of his rear legs, which looks like its healing well. They were all in very good condition and the worker told us he feeds them and someone comes in a white car every evening and feeds them also. We then went on to another area where there was another Mum with 3 pups, a large male Kangal, a rottie mix, another female cream dog and a male terrier. One of the pups here also had a limp on her front leg from a possible break caused by a car hitting her around 2 1/2 months ago. The long haired pup was very nervous indeed and will be hard to catch. The rottie mix had a open wound on the end of his tail which we put batticon on. The Mum here is either just coming in or going out of season and was being mated by both males, so she is another urgent for spaying. The workers feed the dogs and they are all in very good condition, with another 5-7 dogs that we didnt see. The worker here also told us 500 mtrs up the road several dogs were found dead about 15 days ago, maybe by poisoning, we went up there to see if we could find some more info on this but had no luck. The 3 urgent females will be going to Hasan this week for spaying, Beria has very kindly offered to fund these and Gokova Animal Rescue will be funding the vaccinations for distemper and kennel cough, worming and flea treatment. Mugla shelter will neuter the others as there is so many of them and we just dont have funds to pay privately for all of them. It is extremely important the ones that go to the shelter are vaccinated as distemper and kennel cough is common there and the last thing we want is for the dogs to come back infected and infect the other street dogs here. All in all a very successful day, although we didnt find a place to relocate the dogs we went to visit, we met some very nice, caring cooperative workers and some very happy dogs, which is very good news. Thank you Beria for driving us around and translating where needed! :)
