Yesterday I attended the funeral of someone I have known for many - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I attended the funeral of someone I have known for many years and in her situation she also died too young at the age of 46. I listened as the pastor who led the service seemed to struggle with the same thought that prevails for every person who has a family member die so young: why did God allow this? How many of you have struggled with the same thing? The apostle Paul wrote that there would be many groanings in this world because of it being fallen. How many groanings have you known? Death of someone you loved, divorce, separation from a spouse or a child that wont speak to you, difficulty at your job, friends who betray a trust? There are probably too many to count. The why of why groanings are allowed to occur are always difficult to fathom. Zachs illness followed by death in this world was enough for us but scripture tells us to not lose Hope because Jesus has overcome the world. All of us have taken that turn of wondering why is this happening to me. A friend many years ago would complain of negative things happening in their life followed by why is this happening. My thought was always why not. I remembered thinking that when Zach was first diagnosed. Why should I be spared? Why should our family be the exception? My husbands aunt told me recently that after the death of her 16 month old son while she and her husband were serving as missionaries in Zambia, Africa that someone told her that God chooses those who He feels are strong enough to go through such trials. It is an interesting perspective and I am not sure if it is correct but I do know that through the healing process one must let go of the why and just focus on the strength that God provides to heal. That I can testify to. We will probably never know why God allows a 46 year old to die or a 17 year old from cancer or an 18 year old in the line of duty for his country. Eventually the why loses its value. Our focus becomes healing and trusting in the sovereignty of a loving God who will carry us to victory. Through your own healing process allow that to comfort. Let go of the why and focus on the strength provided by the Holy Spirit. Remember we are more than conquerors through Christ who loves us!
