Yesterday I brought home a second purebred Jersey bull calf. His mama is a broken coat (think paint horse) sweetheart with a nice little udder. New boy was brought home as insurance, plan B, just in case Boone cant do the job. I woke up in a panic from a dream...everyone racing around the corrals; horses, cattle & calves - everyone in a frenzy due to the coyotes. Everyone was happy, lounging in the straw & chewing cud. Lol must have been caused by a neighbour who stopped to ask if we would mind his firing off shots at 6am at our local pack of coyotes as he goes by on his way to their feedlot - where they have already lost 4 calves to coyote predation. Im thankful that the cows we have that are quiet enough one person can work them, that love getting scratches, that tolerate our dogs but HATE coyotes & have never let them get a calf!
