Yesterday I followed the advice of several folks and went to Smith Rock State park in Oregon. Upon my arrival an air ambulance was taking away a woman who had fallen from one of the easy trails. The area is beautiful. A rock climbers paradise. Sunrise light is what would create the best photo, or at least some puffy clouds. From Smith Rock I went back to Bend and then headed east on U.S. 20 and got to Eagle, ID where I am staying for a couple nights. Today I took a drive up to the small town of Idaho City, ID. Population 450 or so. In 1863-64 Idaho City was the largest city in the Pacific Northwest, with 6000+ folks, larger than Portland. Idaho City is the remnants of a gold rush mining town, with wooden sidewalks, many dirt streets and a historically preserved downtown. It is clearly making efforts as a tourist stop. It is the County seat for Boise, County. After a fire burned much of the town in 1865 many buildings were rebuilt with brick and iron doors, resembling many of the structures in Auburn, Ca. Perhaps the most unique building in town is The Sluice Box, a second hand store, which recently was sold. It is my second photo here. In the constantly comparative lives we live it is good to see my garage is not as junk filled as it could be…. :)
