Yesterday I had a meeting with Joe Murithi Njeru and Ram Ritho - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I had a meeting with Joe Murithi Njeru and Ram Ritho amongst others. We were discussing eLearning. The two are my former students at Strathmore School, Nairobi Flashback, 1994. Joe is in std.8 and as a morning routine, my lessons begin with an ice breaker where any student is free to talk about anything. Joe steps and talks about the Bermuda Triangle. There is absolute silence in the class and when the bell rings for the lesson to start, nobody obeys it. All eyes are on Joe as he goes on releasing facts, figures and myths about the Bermuda Triangle. Even the naughty Michael Ngumuta, tc kiattu, Kenneth Ngera are awed. Forty minutes later, the bell rings again. My lesson is over and the next teacher is waiting. I am compelled to beg for the lesson (damn the syllabus) so that Joe can finish his lecture. The questions come in thick and fast and Joe answers then confidently. The break time bell rings and nobody wants to go out for break. Joe ends his session and the whole class literally follows him wondering where he got all that knowledge from. I read the Scientifc journals that my father subscribes to, Joe tells them. Sir, can Joe teach us Science? 2014. I sit and again listen as Joe talks about the eLearning platform. Diary of a Wimpy Teacher.
