Yesterday I hiked Grays Peak, my first 14er (a mountain that is 14,000ft in elevation, and caught the sunrise. It was so brutally cold that it froze my water, batteries in the iPad and iPhone. The wind was insane, blowing so hard that when I first reached the summit I immediately laid down next to this rock hoping it would die down... After a while I figured that I was going to freeze if I didnt find better cover. The bad thing was that I ended up getting to the summit an hour before sunrise. I moved to this man made rock pile that provided some decent shelter. The wind still blew threw the rocks and I shivered for a quite a while. It was awesome how much warmth the sun brings. Every 15 minutes I could tell a significant change in the temperature... either that or I was becoming numb to the cold. The hike up was amazing. You could see so many stars. I would have tried to get some better star shots, but I really didnt think I had enough time. As I was hiking up I was thinking about what it would be like to be up there during the sunrise and how awesome it would be. As awesome as it was, I was so cold that all I could think about was getting the shots I wanted and getting off the mountain. I took a lot of photos and this one is probably my favorite (Im still combing through the shots). Ill also be posting a video of the whole view. It was taken from my iPad before it froze.
