Yesterday I received an email from Mars Society Convention informing me that my abstract has been approved for a half hour presentation at the convention in August! Wow! I only had 20 mins at the last conference I presented at....I am going to have to step up my game! This is such a HUGE HONOR to be able to present at the Mars Society Convention this year! Below is the abstract that has earned me the invite to present: M1V1: Experimental Resource Based Human Settlement Darlene D. Denis Mars One 705 Candidate The Reality: The first Mars One Human Settlement will, out of necessity, begin as a resource based colony. The four individuals chosen to settle the first colony on Mars via Mars One will only have at their disposal, the resources they have brought with them, the knowledge and skills they have received training for and bring with them from their Earth existence, the supplies Mars One has already sent prior to the manned missions and those Mars One sends with the first manned mission, their access to the limited internet and home (albeit delayed to some degree) and whatever natural resources are available and usable on Mars. The Vision: In light of this reality I am proposing a project that works towards establishing, growing (as addition crews will be arriving every two years from Mars One) and maintaining a resource based human settlement reality. I, along with several other Mars One candidates, are currently working on what I have named the M1V1 Experimental Based Settlement Project. The M1V1 Experimental Human Settlement would be based on The Venus Project cyber~engineering-social model, adapted to the reality of living on Mars in a colony that begins with just 4 individuals. I am currently learning from the creators of The Venus Project, and plan to visit their Venus Project location in Venus Florida sometime before Mars One training starts in 2015. Although it is expected that others outside of Mars One will eventually send more humans to Mars once Mars One is successful in establishing a thriving human settlement, it is my/our intention to provide humans with an alternative social reality, to set an example of what is possible and to prove that humans definitely have options when it comes to creating and maintaining the society they exist within. ********************************************************************************************* In addition I have received permission from Jacob Haqq~Misra to reference his essay: The Transformative Value of Liberating Mars.(arxiv.org/pdf/1404.2315v1.pdf) ********************************************************************************************* Now I must raise the funds I need to cover the cost of traveling to and attending the convention so I can indeed present this project proposal.
